Mystery Halloween Hat Knit-Along Cast on and Rib

Today is the day to Cast On and Knit the hat! Scroll down for the pattern. There are three sizes. Small, Medium and Large! Knitting an easy to knit hat. It's a mystery knit along! Join me for an exciting hat knitting journey every Tuesday and Friday until the hat is complete. I will reveal a part of the hat in each episode including pattern details to that part of the hat. You will end up with a super warm and fun hat to wear or give as a gift on Halloween or past Halloween even as it's not super overt! Time to Cast On and knit the hat. Scroll down for the pattern. New additions are added sequentially so you may have to scroll down to see the newest addition of the hat knitting pattern. Materials needed: Main Colour - DK weight Yarn: Black or Grey 50-75grams - Yarn A 2nd Colour - DK weight Yarn: Orange, red or yellow or variegated with oranges and reds and yellows - 40-50gramms - Yarn B 2 sets of circular needles: 3.75mm and 4mm Darning Needle needed at the end. For the Tension Swatch: Cast on 20 stitches in Yarn A using 4mm needles. Although we are using circular needles the tension swatch is knit flat. Knit 20 rows in stockinette or plain knitting which is one row knit and then one row purl. This is because we are knitting in the flat. Row 21 & 22: Knit 2 rows in Yarn B. Row 23 & 24: Knit 2 rows in Yarn A. Row 25: Knit 2 in Yarn A and then knit 1 in Yarn B. Continue until the end of the row. Row 26: Purl 2 in Yarn A and then purl 1 in Yarn B. Continue until the end of the row. Row 27: Knit 1 row in Yarn A. Cast off using a cast off of your choice but I did a stretchy cast off. Voila your swatch is done! For the Hat Cast On and Rib Knitting. Cast on and Knit the Rib in the size you want using circular needles. (If you use pins which make flat knitting then you can still knit the hat but you will knit and purl later on rather than just knitting and you will have to seam up the hat.) Small size: Cast on 92 Stitches Medium size: Cast on 104 stitches Large size: Cast on 116 stitches. I used a Cable Cast on but you can use any cast on that's not tight. Cast on 1 extra stitch(This is for circular knitting only not if you are knitting flat). Pull your cast on equally over your circular needles and pop the extra stitch back onto the other needle and knit it together with the first cast on stitch. You will have the correct amount of stitches. Row 1-20: Knit a 2x2 rib which is two knit stitches and then 2 purl stitches throughout the row. Pattern Knitting follows in the next episode!
