Up close, top to bottom, in and out, complete tour of Union Pacific's (UP) BigBoy 4014 up close tour along with Steam 844 & Snowplow 900082 in Cheyenne Steam Shop. BIG BOY No. 4014 From Union Pacific’s web page “BIG BOY No. 4014 -Twenty-five Big Boys were built exclusively for Union Pacific Railroad, the first of which was delivered in 1941. The locomotives were 132 feet long and weighed 1.2 million pounds. Because of their great length, the frames of the Big Boys were "hinged," or articulated, to allow them to negotiate curves. They had a 4-8-8-4 wheel arrangement, which meant they had four wheels on the leading set of "pilot" wheels which guided the engine, eight drivers, another set of eight drivers, and four wheels following which supported the rear of the locomotive. The massive engines normally operated between Ogden, Utah, and Cheyenne, Wyo. There are seven Big Boys on public display in various cities around the country. They can be found in St. Louis, Missouri; Dallas, Texas; Omaha, Nebraska; Denver, Colorado; Scranton, Pennsylvania; Green Bay, Wisconsin; and Cheyenne, Wyoming. Big Boy No. 4014 was delivered to Union Pacific in December 1941. The locomotive was retired in December 1961, having traveled 1,031,205 miles in its 20 years in service.  Union Pacific reacquired No. 4014 from the Rail Giants Museum in Pomona, California, in 2013, and relocated it back to Cheyenne to begin a multi-year restoration process. It returned to service in May 2019 to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the Transcontinental Railroad’s completion. Steam Locomotive 844 Also, from Union Pacific’s web page “Living Legend Northern No. 844 - Steam Locomotive No. 844 is the last steam locomotive built for Union Pacific Railroad. It was delivered in 1944. A high-speed passenger engine, it pulled such widely known trains as the Overland Limited, Los Angeles Limited, Portland Rose and Challenger. Many people know the engine as the No. 8444, since an extra '4' was added to its number in 1962 to distinguish it from a diesel numbered in the 800 series. The steam engine regained its rightful number in June 1989, after the diesel was retired. When diesels took over all of the passenger train duties, No. 844 was placed in freight service in Nebraska between 1957 and 1959. It was saved from being scrapped in 1960 and held for special service. The engine has run hundreds of thousands of miles as Union Pacific's ambassador of goodwill. It has made appearances at Expo '74 in Spokane, the 1981 opening of the California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento, the 1984 World's Fair in New Orleans and the 50th Anniversary Celebration of Los Angeles Union Station in 1989. Hailed as Union Pacific's "Living Legend," the engine is widely known among railroad enthusiasts for its excursion runs, especially over Union Pacific's fabled crossing of Sherman Hill between Cheyenne and Laramie, Wyoming.” Rotary Snowplow 900082 Music: Acoustic Inspiring Guitar, Publisher: The Ricky Theory, Composer: Ricky Valadez Video cameras – Nikon Z6ii & Z7ii and GoPro Subscribe for more railfan videos:    / @railfanenthusiast6792   Railfan playlist:    • RailFan   ©2023 A Michael Tuinstra Production #UnionPacific, #UP, #cheyenne, #cheyennedepot, #steam, #steamlocomotive, #bigboy, #bigboy4014, #4014, #844, #steamlocomotive844, #rotarysnowplow90082, #90082, #train, #trains, #trainvideo, #railway, #railways, #rail, #railfan, #railfans, #railfanning, #railroad
