Hey everyone, it's Paul Wheel Drive back at it again, and today I’m taking a trip to see the granddaddy of all trees: the mighty General Sherman! This isn't your average backyard pine. The General Sherman Sequoia is the world's LARGEST living single-stem tree by volume. That's right, the most massive organism on Earth is a tree, and it's found in Sequoia National Park, California. At over 275 feet (83 metres) tall, which is taller than the statue of Liberty! Its base measures a staggering 100 feet in circumference – that's wider than most buses! Even crazier, scientists estimate it is around 2,100 years old. So, this tree was a sapling when Julius Caesar was roaming around! But the General Sherman isn't just about size. Sequoia trees are incredible for their resilience. Their thick bark acts like a fireproof jacket, protecting them from low-intensity fires that actually help clear out dead trees and keep the forest healthy. Speaking of fire, the General Sherman actually got wrapped in aluminum foil last year to shield it from a wildfire! Thankfully, the fire crews did an amazing job and the General Sherman emerged unscathed. If you're ever in California, visiting the General Sherman Sequoia is a must-do.
