2014 Kia Forte shake, rattle and stall- Diagnosing stalling issue

This 2014 Kia Forte has a 1.8l engine that has port injection and dual VVT. I checked the entire computer system for codes and found no codes. I also checked oil level and although is was dark reddish/brown in color the level was OK. During the first test drive I thought the engine was pinging (detonation) right before it stalled. I chased this lead for a while which included logging data during the event and checking fuel pressure. All looked good and no major problems were noticed. It wasn't until a second test drive with different data being logged that I noticed the noise and stall would happen right after the exhaust VVT was commanded by the ECM while at low engine speeds. After finding out what the issue is I needed to find out why and how. That is where the video takes place. I have a hard time believing that I was able to double the oil pressure by changing the oil and filter but I will remember this in the future.
