During this weekend of 7 & 8 September 2024, Antwerpen celebrates the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the city. British tanks rolled into the city and this is regarded as the start of a general celebration of the liberation on 4 September 1944. This weekend event is meant to take a moment to remember all the sacrifices and suffering of the war. Freedom should never be taken for granted! Historical as well as contemporary vehicles and material were on display as part of the celebration, together with a variety of activities, like a parade (l sadly missed it!), a 'Bevrijdingsbal' (liberation dance) with music of that time and several exhibitions.
