The Shawka Dam Hiking trail really is one of my favourites, its right up there with the best in the country. Its easily accessible and maybe less than an hours drive from parts of Dubai and Sharjah. Location on Google maps is https://goo.gl/maps/Hhhif5J9f7qtfMtM8 The hiking trail from the lower car park up to the dam, around the spectacular trail and back to the car car park is 7.2km in total. You must give yourselves a minimum of 2.5 hrs. walking time. It is possible to complete quicker but you might also find it taking longer! Its a straightforward trail, no technical or overly dangerous areas but it is quite long and certainly goes up and down a lot. In fact 450m of ups and downs so make sure you are fit enough before attempting. My Garmin said I burned 1124 calories completing the Wadi Shawkah Dam Hike. Make sure you take plenty of water and food.
