I have quite a few classic soaps in reserve! Cella is made in Milan, Italy and has been produced there since it's inception in 1899. Cella was made at a time where the only people that used shaving cream or soap were based in barbershops (for the most part). With the rise in popularity of the safety razor after WW1, Cella wanted to rebrand and try and set themselves apart from the competition at the time and that's where the jolly 'Cella Man' came to existence. The thing to notice is he is wearing pyjamas, which is there to indicate that shaving is something we do in our own homes, as a ritual to relax and enjoy. Cella is a soft soap, very much in the same vein as a lot of Italian soaps of that period. In this community, we tend to call them 'Croaps' - a hybrid of both soap and cream. Cella is very easy to lather and resembles the lathers, of old. Big, airy and fluffy. The performance is actually very good, it's mightly slick enough and does exactly what it needs to do. This biggest thing I've noticed separating the oldies with the new soaps is the amount of focus the artisans put on post-shave feel. I hope you enjoyed this video!
