Summary: The book of Acts shows the history of the Christian church, the preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and the strong opposition to it. Many faithful servants preached and taught the gospel of Jesus Christ, but one man named Saul, later renamed Paul, had the most influence. Before his conversion, he rejoiced greatly in persecuting and killing Christians. Paul's dramatic conversion on the road to Damascus (Acts 9:1-31) is the highlight of the book of Acts. After his conversion, he came to love God in the opposite way than he had in the past, and preached His words earnestly and vigorously with the true and living Spirit of God. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, the disciples were able to become witnesses of the Lord in Jerusalem (Acts 1-8:3), Judea and Samaria (Acts 8:4-12:25), and to the ends of the earth (Acts 13:1-28).
