This week I show the process of turning thin slices of Morado (aka Bolivian Rosewood) and spalted Maple into a segmented vase. The base was made from Peruvian Walnut. Morado is absolutely gorgeous and finishes with a smoothness that really has to be felt to be appreciated. The art of woodturning is a centuries-old tradition, and it's still as popular as ever. There are many different types of woodturning, including segmented woodturning, which is a type of turning where the wood is cut into small, individual pieces. This method is often used to create vases and other decorative items. Segmented woodturning is a beautiful and intricate form of turning. It takes a lot of skill and patience to create something like a segmented woodturning vase. First, the woodworker must cut the wood into small, even pieces. Then, they must use a router or chisels to create even and accurate cuts. Finally, they must sand the pieces to remove any imperfections or blemishes. Once the pieces are sanded and polished, the woodworker can start to turn them into whatever design they desire. They can add intricate details with a lathe or milling machine, or they can create a more traditional design with a chisel or gouge. After the vase is completely assembled and turned smooth, the artisan finishes it by hand-rubbing a finish onto it. Segmented woodturning is a fascinating form of turning that requires a lot of skill and patience to execute correctly. It's an ideal technique for creating delicate and intricate vases and bowls that look perfect in any home. This vase is for sale at my Etsy shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/caswoodcraft
