Another mooch around at my favourite spot. This time I took my .243 remington PSS with Pard NV008S LRF, using 100gn Nosler Partition bullets. The wind was once again in the wrong direction, but as there are animals on the hill I have to just do the best I can to get into a shooting position. The downwind option would mean skirting round the hill in a different direction where there are cows and calves roaming, so wasn't really an option. On arrival there was a sika already spooked by my scent, but after twenty minutes or so when things started to settle down they gradually started moving again, first a hind and calf, then a hind, then the little staggie appeared out of the bracken. A tasty little freezer filler. Unfortunately I left it twenty minutes or so after the shot and I didn't realise just how dark the camera image would be when filming the follow up, next time I'll use the torch! I radioed my wife and she came along to collect me on the quad with the sheep trailer. Happy days.
