I’m excited to share that I’m releasing my handpan version of Gymnopédie No. 1 by Erik Satie right now! This piece has always resonated deeply with me. Its melody is both haunting and peaceful, creating a unique atmosphere that I absolutely love. Erik Satie wasn’t just known for his incredible music, which blends humor and minimalism – he was quite the eccentric figure. He famously only wore gray velvet suits and owned twelve identical ones, earning him the nickname “the velvet gentleman." For this handpan version, I tried to incorporate some "grey" elements and repetitive visuals, echoing his velvet style and capturing his playful rebellion against classical conventions.
