Trying to find out the history of this building is a challenge, but an enjoyable one as I have learnt so much about its area and the history on our doorstep that I didn't know. This house/cottage built into the side of the Dingle has not been lived in for many years. The pentagram carved in the tree, was a bit of a strange thing to come across in the middle of the woods right next to an abandoned building , but has nothing to do with the house. No current road or path reaches the house i had to jump over a stream and walk up the embankment to reach it. One of the things I found out searching the history of this area is the valley this house sits on was the same valley where Wells were reputed formerly to have medicinal properties, which led many to make long pilgrimages in order to test their efficacy. Also, this mystery house was built in the same Dinlge where the world’s first iron boat was transported down to the river Severn. On 9 July 1787 the world’s first iron boat was assembled at Willey Wharf on the River Severn in Shropshire. The boat was built by John Wilkinson and named (Trial). The vessel was assembled at Willey Wharf before transported by tramway down Tarbatch Dingle to the river Severn. This dingle was also used to carry guns via trams to the river Severn banks to be sent off to the south for the purpose of being smuggled into France.. On old maps two buildings are shown, but no mention anywhere of these structures so my research continues to hopefully update people on a later date..
