During the summer of 1986, my good friend Alan travelled around the UK, armed with a hefty VHS camera, recording the railway scene. I'm delighted to be able to bring you the results. In Part 20, Alan spends a few hours checking out the action around the City of Exeter. First up, we see 50010 Monarch at Exeter Central with a train bound for London Waterloo. Alan then returns to Exeter St David’s Station where we see 50024 Vanguard descending the hill from Central with an Ex Waterloo service, followed by a class 142 ‘Skipper’ DMU on a working from Exmouth. 50029 Renown then heads towards the West Country, closely followed by 47454. 50013 Agincourt arrives from the West on what I believe to be 2C51, the 18:35 from Paignton. 50024 then makes a spectacular start from the station as it attacks the 1 in 37 climb around the bend towards Central with its return Waterloo working. 33023 heads North with what I think is train 1B72, the 19:40 to Cardiff Central, before 50013 draws empty stock in from the stabling point ready to form 2C25, the 20:10 service to Totnes. Finally, an unidentified class 33/0 arrives from Central on what I think is 1V16, the 16:38 Waterloo to Exeter. This loco will return east only as far as Salisbury with train no. 2O96, departing at 2058. I'd love to hear your thoughts about this video. Please leave comments below. Thank you.
