Top 6 Tips to manage and save your data usage on your 4G smartphone 1. Know where your data gets consumed the most Step: Go to mobile settings and select data usage option. Select or set the data cycle for which you would like to check the data usage. Now you can see app wise data consumption for the selected period. 2. Manage video quality during streaming Step: Streaming of videos, especially with high resolution, will result in high data usage. You can control and adjust data usage during video streaming by making a few changes to the quality settings. For example, while playing YouTube video, tap on settings and select a lower video quality. These steps may vary depending on the App used, but most popular video streaming apps will allow you to control data usage by adjusting the video quality. 3. Manage download settings for WhatsApp Step: To reduce data usage on WhatsApp, go to WhatsApp settings and tap on Data & Storage Usage - Auto download & uncheck the type of content that you don’t want to auto-download. The unchecked content type can be downloaded manually as per your choice. 4. Manage Auto-Update settings in Play store Step: If you have enabled ‘Auto-Update’ Apps on Playstore or Appstore, then all apps on your phone will get auto updated each time a new update is available. Some apps consume as high as 150MB per update. To reduce data consumption, you may disable the auto update and update apps as per your choice. 5. Manage auto back up and sync on Cloud applications Step: Applications such as Google Photos, Google Drive, Dropbox etc. allow automatic back up and sync all your data such as photos, videos and music to the cloud. Check the settings to ensure only critical files are updated. Example go to google photos, tap on Menu and select settings option and disable the automatic ‘Back up & sync'. 6. Manage Auto update setting on devices connected to your Mobile via hotspot Step: Did you know when you make your mobile a Wi-Fi hotspot and connect to other devices, the amount of data used increases significantly? All the connected devices start auto download or auto update as they are now connected via WiFi. Software updates on laptops / devices can sometimes be as large as 1GB. You may disable the option ‘Auto-update over WiFi’ from settings to your connected device in Playstore, WhatsApp and Cloud applications of your connected devices.
