Camino Frances Day 13 Prblacion de Campos to Calzadilla de la Cueza

Camino Frances – Day 13 Poblacion De Compos – Calzadilla de la Cueza – 33km Someone had the same alarm as Jim - so alarm goes off - I’m up dressed and ready to go to find out it’s only 5am and not Jims alarm. I had to bunk hop and give Jim a nudge as there was no way I could have gone back to sleep. So we headed off earlier than normal. The day started well. We both felt good. This morning was a 12km walk before breakfast. I like this distance as it’s a good portion of the day before our first break. Breakfast is always well received and we haven’t tired of our usual breakfast so far. Temperature started to heat up as the day wore on. We hit the last big town 5 hours into our walk and had a 17.68km haul before we would see another village. So we stocked up on water purchased a couple of bread rolls, ham and salad sat at a park bench and made up our rolls to take with us to have somewhere on the way. It is pretty flat on the Meseta with views if fields, fields and more fields. It’s quite nice in itself and we are appreciating the easier walks as we know it is only for a few more days. The heat sucks the life out of you and there was a wave of relief when Calzadilla de la Cueza was in sight. We booked into our Albergue Camino Real Hostel then ordered a couple of large beers. The barman brought out our beers in a couple of small port glasses and took great delight in our reactions. Oh my gosh they had a bath in our room. That’s it for me - filled it up and had a pleasant soak to take away the aches and pains of the day. Unfortunately I had trouble getting out so had to call Jim to the rescue a few slippery attempts later and I was out. A group of Irish ladies have just turned up at the Albergue. They are already onto their 5th beer and are becoming rather raucous, which was lovely to see until we headed off for bed and they were partying on under our bedroom window. We could be in for a long night however the bath, great food and wine was enough to put us into peaceful slumber. I believe we are in for a cooler change tomorrow which is supposed to hang around for the next few days which will be a welcome relief. Until tomorrow Buen Camino – Jim and De
