Who is MEANt to be the Next Pope? - Vit Piskovsky - The Archimedeans

The conclave, a papal election process, seems to be an interesting dynamical system. Cardinals with opinions from all around the world need to settle on a choice of a single pope by being closed to the public in a single room. This process inspired an interesting approach to the so-called Kolmogorov means. The talk will develop a new perspective on the Kolmogorov means as constants of motion for a family of conclave-like dynamical systems. Interesting applications include a new proof of the AM-GM-HM inequality and a stronger version of the Kolmogorov theorem from 1930 on characterisation of Kolmogorov means.
