Silent Minecraft Let's Play #14

Hello again. Here, I find myself in the face of yet another cave that I have to dig towards in a long "finger" off of the pain path. I oftentimes find these sorts of caves by listening very well to the sounds of enemies or bats. Although bats were added as an aesthetic creature, I actually believe they serve some sort of functionality as well. They can spawn as a good indicator of nearby caves that you haven't seen or explored yet, because they're a loud non-hostile mob that only spawns in dark caves. They're very convenient in fact, and sometimes I wish you could keep some as pets. Then again, I've never really been one to keep many pets in Minecraft. Even a dog can get annoying with their constant noise, and they can take up a lot of space. They're one of the only ways to do something about the incessant loneliness that permeates this game, so I understand people who collect lots of them. It gives you something to manage, and by naming them you can distract yourself from the deathly silence. They provide ambience to a quiet home, warmth to a lost soul. More often than not it makes the silence more poignant for me. I find myself wishing I had a real person to speak with, and to play with, rather than a weak pastiche of one. In this episode you also get to watch me try (and fail) to create a more convenient tunnel in the direction of the cave I find, which takes up a good chunk of the runtime. If you think that this episode is short and mundane, you haven't seen anything, because the next one is so short I genuinely considered clipping the two episodes together. However, for the novelty, I think I'm going to keep them separate. It's also less work for me to do, which is always exciting. I sort of laughed to myself when I found the way that the caves interconnected with each other. Apparently, I didn't need to make a more convenient path-- it already existed. It's surreal how it seems even this game world is looping around itself, creating a maze of confusion yet familiarity. I spoke about this in a previous episode, and I think the parallels are fun.
