Today we visit St Mary's Church, Calne, Wiltshire. 'Alone on a wide wide sea' is a quote taken from The Rime of the Ancient Mariner which relates to Samuel Taylor-Coleridge and our visit to St Marys church, Calne, Wiltshire. I’ve visited Coleridge’s house in Nether Stowey, Somerset (National Trust) several times, but it was only whilst reading two books on his life that I realised he’d actually lived not far from me, for a time, in Church street, Calne – will we find out which house it was? Join me, from your sofa, to find out! @HimInChurch Details https://www.nationalchurchestrust.org... Historic Churches Trust: https://www.wiltshirehistoricchurches... Coleridge wrote Biographia Literaria in Calne, and also prepared his opium inspired poem 'Kubla Khan' and his Gothic ballad 'Christabel' for publication there. He also made annotations to his famous poem 'The Rime of the Ancient Mariner' there.
