The two powers, now the Rome-Berlin Axis, send troops and technicians to General Francisco Franco to support his Fascist revolt against the Spanish government. Munich Pact: The Policy Of Appeasement Hitler demands that the Sudetenland, a region of Czechoslovakia with many German-speaking people, be ceded to the Reich, but the Czechs threaten armed resistance. Fearful of war in Europe, Britain and France persuade Czechoslovakia to yield to Hitler's demand. On September 30, 1938, British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain and French Premier Daladier sign the Munich Pact with Hitler and Mussolini, confident that allowing annexation of the Sudetenland to Germany will satisfy Hitler and avert war.
