Sole Survivor
John Wetton's passing today brought many of his great musical moments to mind and I was moved to do something of his in tribute. His musicianship and voice were stellar. This one from ASIA has particular personal resonance with me. Their first album was playing in my little Toyota Celica as I foolishly made my first drive over the Donner Summit in the Sierra Nevada (Elevation 7,057) during a blinding snow and without chains. I was a young man in love, trying to get to my beloved, who was in Reno. As I slid out and was spinning across lanes, I heard horns honking and couldn't see a thing. It was the first time I'd ever truly feared for my life. When it was over and I found myself on the shoulder of the interstate, this song was eerily playing.
