Building a Wad Punch Arbor Press Adaptor

Olly from ‪@ollysworkshop‬ has been in touch to ask if I'd like to be part of this year's advent calendar series of workshop videos, by contributing a little film of my own to his new guest channel feature. I was flattered to be asked, and was only too pleased to support the project! If you’re any sort of home machinist, maker, DIYer, inventor, hacker, repairer or general tinkerer be sure to pay him a visit and see what else is on offer this year (and if you don't celebrate Christmas, fear not as any association is minimal -it's just an excuse for a bunch of workshop videos!) In this film I make an experimental arbor press adaptor for my ‪@maunindustries‬ metric wad punch set. It’s not intended to replace the hammer driven handle, but to be an alternative to play with when the need arises for a different application method. 00:00 ~ Ollsworkshop 2023 Advent Calendar 00:15 ~ Wad Punch Kit 01:27 ~ An Idea to Try Something Different 01:54 ~ A Touch of TIG? 01:40 ~ Making the Attachment Box 03:00 ~ The Only Critical Part? 04:07 ~ Single Pointing Left and Right Handed Threads 05:09 ~ Making the Spring Loaded Plunger Part 08:14 ~ Tailstock Die Holder 09:20 ~ Rotary Broaching a 6 Sided Hole 10:10 ~ Final Assembly and Testing OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO Post Upload Update: At the start of this project I contacted the manufacturer of the wad punches to see what the handle thread actually was. Their reply was both quick and helpful, but found its way into the spam folder and I've only just found it! In case you were wondering, this was their response: --------- All our wad punches, all sizes, are tapped 5/8” BSF (this is 14TPI). The handle has a 5/8” BSF thread in a truncated form turned to 0.595” diameter, + or - 0.005” (14.97mm-15.24mm). The truncated form allows for easier and quicker changing between punches. --------- So if you were to embark on a similar project, I've proven a metric thread is close enough, but if you want to do it properly it's actually imperial!
