BIC Brunch, The Thema Sessions, No. 2: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

In light of the recent announcement (in February 2022) that the BIC subject classification codes will be made obsolete in February 2024, we (BIC) have put together a brand new series of BIC Brunches, in collaboration with EDItEUR, known as the Thema Sessions. This is a live recording of the second in that series and is on the subject of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). The live event was held on 26th May 2022. Session host: Karina Urquhart, Executive Director, BIC. Speaker: Chris Saynor, Standards Editor, EDItEUR In this session, Chris Saynor, using a wealth of worked examples, shares expert hints, tips and advice on how Thema can be used by publishers and booksellers to help with the discoverability and promotion of diverse voices and content/themes in the book industry. Each session of our brand new series of Thema-focussed BIC Brunches will be dedicated to one Thema topic and will offer attendees the opportunity to learn more about that specific area of Thema first-hand, from the experts at EDItEUR – the organisation that governs, develops, and maintains the standard. Subsequent recordings in the "BIC Brunch -The Thema Sessions" series will be on the following topics: (3): Children and Education, 28th Jul 2022 (4): Non-Fiction: Popular (e.g., Health, Travel, Cookery etc.), 29th Sep 2022 (5): Non-Fiction: Academic (e.g., Medicine, Law etc.), 17th Nov 2022 (6): Comics and Manga, 26th Jan 2023 Session 1 was held in March 2022, and was on the topic of Adult Fiction.
