FDOT Materials Research Park - Fishing in Gainesville, Florida

I found this spot on Google Maps and drove by one day on my way to the beach to check it out. Unfortunately, at the time, COVID was in full swing, and someone stated the campus was closed to visitors, but could possibly open up sometime in July. WELL, I went by recently and it is OPEN!!! There are signs posted around the lake/pond with various rules. It was a nice quiet spot, and I had a pretty successful day catching about 5 bass, including a 4 pounder! There was a gator that was about 4-5 feet long ans seemed a little aggressive towards fishing lures/bobbers, so be careful out there. Otherwise, there appeared to be a TON of fish here including bream and bass. It could be a great spot to bring the kids! They can practice their casting in the plenty of open areas that feature no overhanging limbs to get hung up on! Overall, it was as a pretty fun spot! Give it a try! I'll definitely be back!
