Hip-hop’s golden age would unfold throughout Daru’s formative high school years, leading him to forge new pathways to connect the seemingly disparate landmarks of the musical map. Prominent emissaries of a multitude of genres would prove critical to the development of his trademark “soulhop” musical approach, including DJ Premier, Michael Jackson, Pete Rock, Chick Corea, Tony Williams, and countless others. With two Grammy Awards, longtime collaboration with the likes of Jack White and the Roots (to name a few), and a genre-melding project out of Vienna under his belt, Daru Jones shows no sign of slowing down.
