The Chelsea Radio Company 1927 Console Version of the Super-Five was a metal chassis, metal face plate Super-Five that would have been used in a console that, in most cases, had a speaker and possibly a power supply. It was their last commercially viable "Super-Five" TRF Receiver. This particular one was mounted in a table top cabinet which raises more questions than it answers. While the original face plate has a dark brown wrinkle finish to it, we opted to put lighter crackle finish on it to give it a similar texture, but lighter shade of brown. Modern wrinkle finishes would have been too dramatic, as it would have created a more industrial look. The old finish has wrinkles that are not as prominent, and spread wider apart. Not an easy finish to duplicate. An attempt to clean the finish failed resulting in having to remove the old finish and start over. Some of the clues that point to this radio being a console radio are the inside speaker connections, the metal face plate, the utilitarian chassis, placard and decal. The entire radio was pulled apart, cleaned, chassis refinished, faceplate refinished, transformer repaired, decal reproduced, cabinet refinished and lacquered. It was reassembled and tested with stunning results.
