Bridging the divide: Letters from segregated America | Museum of Freemasonry | Online talks

Between 1902 and 1907, Frederic Monroe of the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Massachusetts corresponded with Henry Sadler, historian and Sub-Librarian of the United Grand Lodge of England. Monroe’s letters give a fascinating insight into his views on a variety of subjects including the prejudice faced by African-Americans as both men and freemasons, the preparations for the centenary of his Grand Lodge and his very differing opinions on two authors writing books about Prince Hall freemasonry. Join our Librarian, Martin Cherry, who explains the background of two remarkable men and explores how the bonds of freemasonry in the early twentieth century could transcend the boundaries of national and racial differences. 00:00 Introduction 00:24 Bridging the divide: Letters from segregated America 23:30 Live attendee Q&A session Discover more and learn about freemasonry: https://museumfreemasonry.org.uk - All images are ©Museum of Freemasonry, London, 2021, unless otherwise stated.
