Operating a Floatplane from a long lake on a calm to medium wind day can be fairly easy with the right flight training. Operating the same float plane on a calm day with little wind on a tight, confined body of water with less room to get the airplane up to speed can be a real challenge. This is why there are special pilot techniques for operating floatplanes from confined areas, make a special effort to use as much of the available area as possible and getting a little creative with how to get the aircraft up to speed. Also important here is to get the aircraft off of the water as soon as possible to reduce drag on the floats.
