Wonderful Wastelands - 4k UHD time lapse from Utah

WONDERFUL WASTELANDS Photographed and produced 2014-2019, this 4 minute short film will take you to theremote wilderness of Western USA, mainly in southern Utah. You will see monumental mountains, vast and colorful wastelands, remnants from volcanic activity, impressive geological features and eroded layers of rock revealing hundreds of millions of years from Earth's history. In 2017, president Donald Trump announced reductions to two of Utah's - and also USA's - largest mainland National Monuments: 1. Bears Ears National Monument, originally 1,351,849 acres or 5,470.74 km2. 2. Grand Staircase Escalante, originally 1,880,461 acres or 7,610 km2. February 2nd 2018, the decision to downsize the two national monuments took effect. Bears Ears National Monument was reduced by a devastating 84% to just 201,876 acres, an exceptionally large reduction that is unprecedented in the history of U.S. national monuments. Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument was effectively reduced to about half its original size, to 1,003,863 acres. Having visited these beautiful areas of the world several times, I was shocked to know these actions could actually happen in our time. These protected areas are now being subject to mineral, oil and gas exploration, and earlier habitat protections for endangered species are being rolled back. The film builds up to a powerful, and a bit angry, musical climax in the middle, which kind of symbolizes my anger with president Trump's actions regarding those national monuments. The second half of the film is darker and more gloomy, picturing a post-apocalyptic scenario where animals and plants are non-existent. Machines have taken over the earth.
