Fear of Guns - (part 1) Stereotyping in Hoplophobia

Welcome to my series on the psychology behind the fear of guns, or "hoplophobia." I apologize ahead of time for the videos on this topic. I'm referencing a great deal of notes from my research to ensure I do not neglect to include certain important points and therefore am looking away from the camera quite a bit. This will not be the case on less technical videos in the future, but it's imperative to not miss certain key points on this topic or else it may make no sense. I study psychology as it applies to various aspects of American culture and particularly to that of self-defense, criminology, and firearms a great deal. I also conduct a fair amount of my own research into these things. For the last few years, I've been hosting introductory firearms classes and discussions where I invite people who are afraid of guns, have no knowledge/experience with them, or who purely don't like guns and/or promote further restrictions of them to attend. It is through these interactions where I can conduct my psychological research into why they feel the way they do. If we as gun owners or just as citizens within a society can better understand each other's perspectives, then we can more appropriately and effectively address them. This will be an evolving and continuing series that I will update as I have more information to put out. I hope these videos help some of you in dealing with people who may suffer from these fears, whether irrational or rational.
