The device also encountered some performance issues due to lack of proper software optimization, along with some bugs here and there to add to the issues. So in this tutorial I will go through step by step how to upgrade this device to Android 7.1. Step 1. Download the zip file containing the new firmware, the Factory flash tool, and the Rockchip driver assistant from the link in the description area below this video, or from the link on my website, also provided in the description area. To make this process smooth and easy, I advise that you download the zip file to a seperate blank folder, or on a clear section of your desktop. Step 2. Un zip the file into its current folder or on the desktop location, by simply right clicking on the file and selecting extract here, or if using the winzip program, select extract all. Once this is done, you should have 3 folders. A folder containing the firmware in the form of an image file, a factory tool folder containing the flash tool, and a Rockchip driver assistant folder containing a driver program to install on the PC. Step 3. Open the Rockchip driver assistant folder, and click and run the driver install e x e program exactly as I am doing. It may or may not ask you to install an additional certificate, if it does, simply click install certificate, and then return to the main program and click on install driver. Once is shows install driver OK, click OK and then close the program. Step 4. Connect the OTG cable to the USB 3.0 port on the box, that's the USB port with the blue color. Do not connect the other end to the PC at this time. Step 5. Using the paper clip, insert it into the yellow audio video port, and press until you feel a click from the reset button on the in side. Step 6. Continue to press and hold the button. While holding the reset button, plug the other end of the OTG cable into the USB port on your PC. You should hear this sound, indicating that a device has been connected. Once you hear that sound, you can release the paper clip from the port. Step 7. Open the Factory tool program. The program starts in Chinese, and you have to click on the blue planet button and select the second option to change it to english. Also, once everything was done correctly, you should see one of the ports under the device list section showing as loader, that's your TV box connected. If there is no connection, repeat steps 4 to 7, and if there's still no connection, try a different OTG cable. I have found that not all type A to type A USB cables work on this box. Step 8. Click on the firmware button. An browse to the folder where you un zipped the latest firmware image file and select the firmware. Give it a few seconds, and then you will see the firmware loaded into the text field, and the blue run button becomes available. Step 9. Click on the blue run button and wait for the flash process to complete. During this process, do not disrupt or un plug any of the cables, as this may result in your TV box being bricked. Step 10. Once the flash process has completed, click on the stop button. Then on the exit button And then remove the OTG cable. Step 11. Connect your H96 max to your TV, and test to see if the update was successful. Please note, that any time you update a TV box to a new firmware, or simply resetting back to factory settings, when you restart the box, it is going to take a little while on the startup screen before it loads up fully.
