‘The Irish in British India’ by Hilary Tulloch. Hilary discusses the origins, functions and crucially, the existing records of the East India Company which was the first global corporation. It was headquartered in London and kept exceptionally good records, for which, its directors set up an archive in London in 1801. At times it was estimated that circa 55% of its employees were of Irish origin. Irishmen worked in administration, on the railways, in the forests and on printing presses as well as in hotels, as tailors and grooms. Others served in the civil service, colonial police, military, naval or merchant marine services.
