Welcome to this PMDG 737 NGX tutorial on how to fly a Standard Instrument Departure (SID) without the FMC, using radio navigation aids such as VOR/DME's and NDB's. We fly the "conventional" MID 3G departure out of London Heathrow (EGLL), runway 27L, using basic autopilot modes such as HDG SEL and VOR/LOC to fly the procedure. Of course, you need LNAV to fly a RNAV departure, as RNAV departures are not based on radio navigation aids. Hopefully, this gives you an insight into radio navigation on the 737 NGX and how to use the two autopilots to ease your workload.
