This video is my personal interpretation of the characters based off reading the book and following the filming of the show, and has nothing to do with the official materials other than they are the source material. So, please don’t take this as the sole truth-it’s just a fan video. I wanted to express my thoughts on Ling Cangcang and Xiao Huan- their complicated identities, personalities, and relationship because I think these are the most interesting aspects of the original book, My Queen. Xiao Huan loves Ling Cangcang but the life of an emperor is not easy and the country should come first. Ling Cangcang loves Xiao Huan but she is her own person with her own needs and desires, and it is not easy to compete with a kingdom and court. To me, what makes Phoenix Stage work is seeing these two people, with such dissimilar temperaments and personalities, stuck in a poisonous environment, find a way to create their own happiness. It’s not a perfect work (picture quality, random Chinese, etc) so please be gentle with it.😅 The specials don’t give much content other than angst either but I hope I’ve been able to at least give a glimpse into their world, the ups and downs, and the elements they’re fighting against to be together.
