We have a passion for finding these hidden gem board games and sharing them with you. Thank you for your support! 2 RULES CLARIFICATIONS: 1) When you end your boat on an empty harbor, the rulebook says you must deactivate your current harbor tile. This is buried in a long paragraph of text and is very easy to miss (so much so we have been playing this wrong for years, until a kind user pointed that out in the comments). This changes your strategy of moving. In the video, I said you sometimes want to land your boat on an empty harbor space if you like your current bonus tile. Well, that is no longer true with this rule clarification. Now, if you end on an empty harbor, you no longer get to keep your bonus tile active. I can't imagine it would change the outcome of the game drastically, so I am going to continue to play the way I have been playing because I've always enjoyed the decision of whether to end on an empty space or not. But I would recommend you try it both ways and see which way you prefer. 2) I slightly misspoke when discussing the end game trigger (25:30). I say "each other player" gets one more turn. What I meant to say was "each other player left in the round ." I went on to say everyone has the same number of turns, so that reinforces the proper way to play. But to clarify, when someone draws the final card, you just finish out the round until the player to the right of the start player takes their turn. Therefore, every player gets an equal number of turns, just like I said in the video. EPISODE 22 features a full tutorial & review of OLTRE MARE (2004) designed by Emanuele Ornella. This hidden gem trading/bartering game reminds me of Bohnanza, but it's a bit more complex and much more of a euro game. I am not always in the mood for negotiation games, but Oltre Mare is a go-to game for us in that genre because of its pleasant & smooth gameplay, simple but tough decisions, and low rules overhead. It offers some fun, thinky decisions throughout, such as weighing how many points to spend each turn, figuring out how to best arrange your cards for scoring, making trades with your opponents, deciding when & where to move your awesome 3D ship, and more. For a game that's nearly 20 years old, this one still holds up in my opinion; it actually feels quite fresh with its own unique identity. I haven't played too many games that feel similar to Oltre Mare. ABOUT: Welcome to my YouTube channel dedicated to the lesser-known & forgotten board games.
