Mighty Swallow Soca Up The Party. 1982

Soca Up The Party is from the Mighty Swallow's 1982 album 'Dance Anyway You Like'. Of his many great soca songs, this is arguably his best soca song and his best soca album. The musical arrangement here is absolutely fascinating. Leston Paul displays his genius as he weaves his musical magic around Swallow's smooth and masterly melody. This song simply glides along at a shuffling pace and is a perfect example from the golden era of ingenious soca music. The Mighty Swallow is undoubtedly the most preeminent "Authentic Soca - True Soca" artist of all time. Check out the string of hits referenced in the "Tribute to Swallow" docu-video, and many of the famous hits were not even mentioned. The Mighty Swallow won the Calypso Monarch title four times, the Road March title five times, and the Caribbean Calypso King Crown on several occasions in Antigua, his native land. Antigua has given the calypso world many celebrated calypsonians, including "The Monarch King Short Shirt" and "The Ultimate Showman, King Obstinate." These calypsonians bore constant recognition in their home country. However, their international prominence seemed short-lived. On the other hand, it was Swallow who kept Antigua in the limelight by pumping out international hits, year after year. Surprisingly, Antigua and Antiguans, for the most part, are oblivious to the prowess of their most prominently recognized and unrivaled international artist of the '80s and '90s. It was "The Monarch King Short Shirt" who pry-opened the international calypso door with his immortal hit Tourist Leggo. However, it was The Mighty Swallow who kept the door open for over two decades. Then Antigua gave the "soca/calypso/jam band world" the ever-popular Burning Flames, who rose to the pinnacle of international status. But, in the annals of Socalypso, only one man reigns supreme; all hail the "King of The Golden Soca Era," Sir. Rupert Philo, "The Mighty Swallow." As per The Sunshine Caribbean Awards database/records, The Mighty Swallow has been nominated for the Sunshine Caribbean Music Awards 10 times; he won five times (the list of nominations and awards is included below).
