Down Mega Memory Lane, we revisit young Guinness and his time with me. This is a random archive dive and selection of the most entertaining of the clips from the dip. Watch Guinness, a Black Flying-Fox pup who came to me after being picked up by another carer. Initially I thought he wasn't going to survive; he was very passive, never looked at you, looked very squinty and squidgy and though he drank his milk there was no spark of liveliness in him. For a while, I even thought he may have been blind, because he didn't make eye contact with me (or Maggie), and she actually said that she couldn't bond with him because he was neutral - he didn't interact with us in any way. I did take him to an ophthalmologist, who dilated his eyes and ultrasound them and viewed their mysteries, and was going to go and ask for advice from wildlife vets as to what the issue may be; the very next day he was better, as if the eye dilation fixed whatever the issue was. I sent a message to say whatever the issue was, she'd fixed it and he was a different boy within 24 hours; the ophthalmologist was delighted that just examining his eyes was curative and wished it was so with all her furry clients. Maggie and I were delighted by the change in our boy, who became interactive and exploratory overnight and made eye contact and started tracking us around the room. Enjoy the retrospective.
