World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse & Donald Duck (Genesis) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

A playthrough of Sega's 1992 license-based platformer for the Sega Genesis, World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. Played through as Mickey. World of Illusion is the third game in Sega's Illusion series, following 1990's Castle of Illusion (Genesis, Master System, and Game Gear) and 1992's Land of Illusion (MS and GG only and did not feature Phil Collins). All three were excellent games that defined themselves with their impressive graphics and cutesy but well-done gameplay. World of Illusion really upped the ante, though, and this production is on a whole different level from its predecessors. It's still a simple platformer, but the level designs are a fair amount more creative this time, and offered much more than the earlier titles: WoI offers unique levels based on if you play as Mickey, Donald, or both in the excellent two-player co-op mode. It was a rarity back then to see either of these feature, and none of it feels cheap or tacked in. The quality stands consistent the entire way through. The graphics and sound really steal the show, though. The backgrounds sport an outstanding level of detail, the sprites have an impressive number of incidental animation frames that help everything to feel alive and like a real cartoon, there's a huge amount of variety between stages, and the music really does the Genesis proud - you'll be humming many of these tunes long after you finish. As much as Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse gets praised, and rightfully so, this sequel stands head and shoulders above it in just about every conceivable way. It's unquestionably a 16-bit classic that still can impress with its craftsmanship today. And who doesn't love Mickey? That terrible Fantasia game nonwithstanding, of course. ____ No cheats were used during the recording of this video.
