Lúnasa is a traditional Irish music group, named after Lughnasadh, an ancient harvest festival that has performed internationally and has recorded a number of albums of both traditional and contemporary instrumental Irish music. Founded in 1997, Lúnasa’s most recent albums include their 2018 album “CAS” and 2024 “Live in Kyoto” project. Current band members are Kevin Crawford (flutes, whistles), Cillian Vallely (Uilleann pipes, whistles), Seán Smyth (fiddle, whistles), Trevor Hutchinson (double bass) and Ed Boyd (guitar). Lúnasa played at The John G. Shedd Institute for the Arts, Eugene, OR. on 20 March 2024. These three selections in their "Punch" set can be heard on their 2004 album, The Kinnitty Sessions, recorded live in Kinnitty Castle, County Offaly, Ireland. The tunes include: Charlie Lennon's Scottish Concerto (a strathspey by Charlie Lennon) Trip to Windsor (by Scott Skinner) Punch in the Dark (by Jerry O'Connor, world-renown banjo player from County Tipperary)
