Paul Loatman - Gear tooth profile, running animation.

This is an animation of the fourth wheel and escape wheel pinion for the Loatman & Thompson Double Chronometer wrist watch shown running, this animation demonstrates that our tooth profiles are derived from the British Standard 978 and have a proper "rolling" action and continuous rotation between wheel and pinion. The back side of the wheel teeth have been shaped in a way to take advantage of the extra space and to use it more efficiently, the base of the tooth is wider, giving it better structural rigidity than a conventional cycloid tooth form, it's often difficult to determine how close commercially available gear cutters are to this exact shape even if the correct cutter size is chosen, often cutters of the same size from different manufacturers will cut a slightly different form. So, we've decided to make our own cutters and forming tools, this insures that we're as close to this correct form as possible and it also allows us to do something interesting like this "Wolf-Tooth" form.
