Quick Vocal Mic Shootout: AT4033a vs SM57

Interestingly most notable difference is probably in the guitar sound - SM57 picks up less of the ES-175 “in the room” sound. All in all the AT4033a is more open and fuller range - better low end and more air on top. SM57 has characteristic mid-forward sound and pleasing high-mid accentuation. Also somewhat more compressed sound. Ironically, when working on a mix I would generally tweak the AT4033 to have exactly those SM57 like characteristics ( esp in a mix w/ Bass and another lead instrument) in order to sit well in the mix. So decision would likely come down to the effect on the guitar sound ( could go either way depending on the song ).
