Astrid Lindgrens World is a theatre park where visitors can meet characters from Astrid Lindgrensbooks in their true settings. The park covers 130,000 square metres in area and is located in AstridLindgrens native town of Vimmerby in southern Sweden, not far from her parental home, Näs. Thepark features well-known settings from the best-loved stories of Astrid Lindgren, including VillekullaCottage, Matts Fort, Noisy Village, Troublemaker Street, Cherry Tree Valley and Katthult. All the settings have been created in the true spirit of Astrid Lindgren. They are faithful to theirliterary originals, and enable all children to enter into the well-known tales of Pippi Longstocking,That Emil, Karlsson-on-the-Roof and many other popular characters. There is theatre all day long, both on stages and in improvised performances all around the park. LillaScenen just inside the entrance and the larger Stora Scenen in Wild Rose Valley are stages wherespecially written scenes featuring singing, music and dancing are performed daily. Betweenperformances the characters can be seen in their true settings, where the fun continues.Astrid Lindgrens World welcomes approximately 450,000 visitors a year. The fact that AstridLindgren is the most extensively translated Swedish author is clear from the constant stream offoreign tourists. One in three visitors comes from outside Sweden, and primarily from Denmark,Germany, Norway, Finland and Holland. Astrid Lindgrens World has its own chalet village and campsite 250 metres from the park entrance, with space for around 1,000 guests in chalets, tents and caravans.
