Well, they need not wonder anymore because the new Duramax engine’s specs have been uncovered. The 3.0-liter straight six will deliver 277 hp (281 PS) at 3,750 rpm and 460 lb-ft (623 Nm) of torque at just 1,500 rpm. The only transmission choice will be a 10-speed automatic. The specs have been found on the GMC build and price tool and confirmed by a GM representative to TFLTruck. So there you have it, the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 will offer the most powerful diesel engine in the segment. As a reminder, the 2018 Ford F-150’s Power Stroke V6 produces 250hp and 440 lb-ft (596 Nm) of torque. As for the Ram 1500, the new generation model hasn’t received the updated 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 yet. However, when it becomes available the updated diesel unit will likely deliver the same power and torque as in the Jeep Gladiator: 260 hp and 442 lb-ft (600 Nm). While the Silverado and Sierra Duramax will offer the most powerful diesel engine of all half-ton pickups, it remains to be seen whether they will also be the most economical. The Ford F-150 Power Stroke, for example, offers an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 30 mpg highway, 22 mpg city, and 25 mpg combined. On the Silverado, the Duramax engine will be available on LT, RST, LTZ and High Country trims. In the Sierra, the new diesel engine will be available on all trims except the base model. GM will soon start taking orders for the new Duramax diesel in the Silverado and Sierra, with the first customer deliveries to begin this summer.
