Dripline Second Lap (3000' descent!!)

Dripline is a mountain biking trail in the Santa Rosa Mountains in the most south eastern portion of the San Bernadino National Forest. It seems to have been made specifically for mountain biking. It boasts over 3000' of vertical descent, most of that being rocky and technical terrain. This is my second time down Dripline, after doing a scoping run first. This was an imperfect descent with a couple of whoopsie moments, but my best one of the three that day. The hardest part of this trail is the slab-into-steep-rock-band feature that comes early on, maybe about a quarter into the descent. On my first run I walked it, did not even attempt it. On this run, my second, I knew it was coming and so I approached cautiously and went for it. I made it down with one touch. I was a little tired on my third run, less precise, less balanced and fell over the bars near the end of that feature. The entry is a bit intimidating and the rock band elevates you above the rugged terrain, so falling seems consequential. In reality, its scary but if you're not going too fast, you'll be fine even if you biff it like I did on my third run. Within the 3000' vertical descent, there are a few other sustained steep sections that demand focus. Its not over until you get to the very bottom. And there are many rock roll features and drops. Some of them seem to come out of nowhere. Even though I had just ridden the trail, I nearly lost control flying off an unexpected drop near the end of the descent. This is not just a tough trail with a lot of vertical, its one of the best trails I've done. It is destined to be at the top of many folks lists. Go check it out!
