Big Day Exploring The Minerals, Ladders, Stopes and Winze Shaft in the Silver Cloud Mine. part 1of 2

In part one of the abandoned Silver Cloud Mine exploration we visit a huge multi tiered open cut mine with a wide variety of mineral laden rocks. We then move underground to explore the massive drifts that wind through the mountain. This area was first mined for silver in the 1860's and there is evidence in the mine that 100 years later there was still mining taking place. The mineral vein that the miners were seeking is on a steep angle throughout the whole mountain. What is left are huge stopes, both above and below the drifts, with numerous wood chutes coming out of the stopes that were used to load ore cars. There are also thousands of feet of ladders going up and down into the stopes. Part 1 ends as we start the descent down a long winze shaft that leads to at least two lower levels.
