Comparing different composts for propagation

A trial I ran from March to May 2022. Radish multisown and lettuce pricked into small module cells. We compare the growth over 1-3 weeks. Then we transplanted them as small seedlings. We finish the video in early May to compare the subsequent growth. So they grew to maturity in the same soil and compost, after the variation which was in the first 2 to 3 weeks. The no dig beds at Homeacres all receive 2.5 cm/1" compost on the surface every year. The lovely music is this song about Homeacres by Jacqui Vincent https://jacquivincent.bandcamp.com/re... 00:00 I introduce the trial 00:51 I show the five composts being trialled: homemade compost / Moorland Gold - two types / rocket grow propagation compost made from digestate / New Horizon compost 02:00 I explain my reasons for doing this trial 02:28 Adding the different composts to each module tray, and a look at each one 05:13 I dispel the myth that you can’t sow into compost! 05:59 I explain how I’m going to sow the radish seeds / prick out the lettuce seeds 06:46 Sowing the radish seeds 06:58 Pricking out the lettuce seedlings from their seed tray, including an explanation of how / why to bury long stems 08:38 Covering the directly sown radish seeds with compost, and I talk more about the trial 09:55 Watering the seeds and seedlings, and I explain how much/when to water 10:23 Timings of transplanting the radish and lettuce 11:03 One week later, and an unexpected addition of worm compost / vermicast to the trial 11:57 A look at each of the five trays sown the previous week 13:44 4th April, 11 days later - a look at the two trays sown on previous update (one with vermicast / one Moorland Gold) 15:30 And I compare each of the five original trays, and comparisons between them 17:43 Transplanting the seedlings outside 18:03 9th May, 5 weeks since transplanting - I show you the harvests resulting from each compost. Later harvest of lettuce gave 440g homemade, 340g New Horizon, 290g digestate, 260g Moorland Seed, 360g Moorland potting, 220g worm (younger plants) and 360g Moorland potting (younger plants) 21:30 Conclusions taken from the trial - all the composts did fine! Lettuce varieties Saragossa batavian, Tesy (red), Winter Density cos and an unknown!
