This video from 1997 shows Dr. Vincent J. Carbone, Ed.D., BCBA-D working with a child with autism. The child moves from very uncooperative and non-verbal to cooperative at least minimally verbal in about 7 weeks. The video also depicts Dr. Carbone transferring the teaching to the child's mother where she produces the same benefits for the child. Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the science in which tactics derived from the principles of behavior are applied to improve socially significant behavior and experimentation is used to identify the variables responsible for the improvement in behavior. Its application to children diagnosed with autism and other developmental disabilities has been well researched and shown to lead to meaningful increases in the skill level of children.
