Hello everyone, how do you do. The IRS (Inertial Navigation Systems) have come up quite regularly for discussion recently. This video is a quick snippet showing you the alignment sequence- which takes about 8 minutes. During alignment, the IRS senses its position on earth but for completion, the reference position as in Latitude and longitude Red to be entered. This is done on the FMS CDU. The aircraft must not have excessive motion for proper IRS platform alignment with present position. If excessive motion is detected, the alignment is automatically paused. It then restarts when motion stops. In the video I mention ‘Platform’ but in fact the IRS does not have a platform as such like the INS systems but has accelerometers that need to be aligned to the horizontal. Attitude information, track, acceleration, vertical speed, heading, wind speed etc are calculated by the system so it is vital for flight navigation. It needs proper alignment. We turn the switches to NAV as one of the first things when we step on board. Hope it gives you some insight- Chi Di Gin! Later✈️✈️✈️✈️
