Akhil Gogoi, the independent Member of Legislative Assembly in the State of Assam has moved the Supreme Court challenging sedition laws under Section 124A of the Indian Penal Code and similar laws. He was arrested on 2019 for his role in anti-CAA protests and charged with UAPA and sedition charges. He was in jail for nearly 1 and a half year and won his seat as an MLA during his incarceration.
