This is a Lodge 12” Pre-Seasoned Cast Iron Skillet. I wanted to eliminate the sand casting marks which meant getting rid of the factory seasoning and replacing it with my own canola oil seasoning. After removing several factory seasonings from the Lodge brand of cast iron skillets, I’ve realized that I like their factory seasoning and recommend leaving them on especially if you are using them as camping cookware. The factory seasoning is robust and with this particular skillet, there was very little sand-casting marks. I was really tempted to just leave the skillet alone, but in the end, I decided to keep in the tradition of my previous skillets and smooth it out a bit more which meant overhauling it. Every other skillet from Lodge was very rough but still completely usable out of the box. Please use some type of respiratory mask to reduce the amount of metal dust produced by sanding and of course use eye protection and gloves to further ensure overall safety.
