Hiking Wiliwilinui Ridge, Hawaii Kai, Oahu, 9-19-2024

For the last 2 weeks, weather for Koolau mountain ranges looked great other than some drizzling early in the morning. Our last hike was on 9 September. Leon was gone for over a week and I started playing golf. Leon had time to hike till 3 pm. So, we decided to hike a relatively dry trail but was rated “hard”. Our friend, Joe, was able to join us for the hike. Its trailhead is inside the gated “Waialae Ike” community. At the sentry on Laukahi street, need to show an ID and acquire a trail pass (& return it back upon exiting). Its trailhead is at the end of Okoa street. It’s well maintained trail all the way to the Koolau summit. The first 1.9 miles are gentle gaining 570 ft elevation gain. Then, it gains 750 ft elevation next 0.4 miles to the summit. At the summit, it has specular views to the south (Diamond head, Waikiki) and to the north (Kaneohe and Kailua). We have met many other hikers that included from Norway and San Diego.
